NON-PROFIT PROGRAM PURPOSE Sunrise Birth & Family Wellness Center is a developing non-profit corporation (501c3 pending) formed in 2007 for the purpose of improving awareness and outcomes in childbirth and health issues, improvement of maternal and infant wellness, and family well-being through the Midwives Model of Care, nutritional education and various modalities of preventive medicine. MISSION To provide informed choices in safe childbirth and health care options with an emphasis on health literacy. To offer information, counseling, health services and referrals for families and persons of all ages, regardless of race, religion, marital status, nationality or financial circumstances. To aim for better outcomes in maternal, infant and family health care in areas of New Mexico, including cooperative birth center, outreach support and home visits. To improve availability of services for those of low income who are uninsured or underinsured and those who are underserved. GOALS Through grants and other donations, the Sunrise Birth & Family Wellness Center will be able to provide pregnancy and newborn wellness support and healthy birth options, maternity/infant resources, counseling and health care referrals through outreach programs to health professional shortage areas of New Mexico. Further expansion of services to be developed via funding for nonprofit birth center. Interaction between existing and new resources to be cultivated for improved results. LOCATION Timely maternity services and a variety of health care outreach are of major importance to the well-being of mothers, infants and families in these communities. The Sunrise’ Center will be able to serve more families within longer distance with its main center located near a larger underserved population in New Mexico. Outreach services includes referrals for those who need maternity health care in certain counties of New Mexico. COMMUNITY NEED Areas of New Mexico remain significantly underserved for health care options, including rural areas and the more remote cities. During the past decade, many pregnant women in parts of these areas received less than adequate to no prenatal care and about one fourth of the pregnant women may receive barely adequate prenatal care.* Problems range from low income/underinsured to insufficient numbers of midwives or doctors for many locations. Other family health care needs also remain unattended. * 2003 NM County Health Profiles, NM Dept. of Health, Public Health PO Box 233 Raton, NM 87740 (505) 577-3541 |
